The Norm Against Biological Weapons |
|
The BTWC Annual Meetings. Following the failure of the Ad Hoc Group negotiations and the Fifth Review Conference in 2001, the States Parties to the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC) adopted an annual work programme at the resumed session of the Fifth Review Conference in 2002, consisting of a meeting of States Parties in December, which is prepared by a meeting of experts in June-August. As the topics for the annual meetings are decided at a Review Conference and the States Parties report the results to the next Review Conference, the annual meetings are also called the 'Intersessional Process'. The first intersessional process took place between 2003 and 2005. At the Sixth Review Conference, the States Parties decided on a second intersessional work programme for the period 2007-2010. They will report the outcomes to the Seventh Review Conference, which is scheduled for 2011. . BWPP contributions to the Intersessional Process

The BioWeapons Prevention Project is dedicated to reinforcing the norm against the weaponization of disease. It is a global civil society activity that tracks governmental and other behaviour under the treaties that codify the norm. It nurtures and is empowered by an international network, and acts both through that network and its publications. |
