Statements by Non-Governmental Organisations to the 2007 Meeting of States PartiesOn Monday, 10 December, the General Debate was suspended in order to enable 6 invited experts from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to participate in a roundtable discussion with the Chair of the Meeting of States Parties, Ambassador Masood Khan (Pakistan). They made brief introductions after which the States Parties were invited to ask questions or enter into discussion. The formula was new, and may be repeated at future meetings. On 10 and 11 December other NGOs made plenary statements to the delegates participating in the Meeting of States Parties to the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC). The BioWeapons Prevention Project is dedicated to reinforcing the norm against the weaponization of disease. It is a global civil society activity that tracks governmental and other behaviour under the treaties that codify the norm. It nurtures and is empowered by an international network, and acts both through that network and its publications. |
