The BioWeapons Prevention Project is pleased to announce that the winner of the Coupland Prize is Andrew Nguyen, of the Biological and Chemical Sciences Faculty, University of Queensland, Australia, who will receive US$2000 prize money. The second place is awarded to Kirk Bansak, Department of Anthropology, Harvard University, USA, who will receive US$800.

BWPP offers its congratulations to both winners. The high standard of the submissions received was very impressive.

European Union Joint Action in support of the BTWC

Since April 2006 the BWPP has been involved in the technical implementation of the Joint Action in support of the BTWC, which was adopted by the Council of the European Union in February 2006. The activities involve the organization of 5 regional seminars to promote the universalization of the convention and assist with national implementation legislation of States Parties to the Convention.

A dedicated website with meeting reports and background information is now accessible.

The BioWeapons Prevention Project is dedicated to reinforcing the norm against the weaponization of disease.
It is a global civil society activity that tracks governmental and other behaviour under the treaties that codify the norm.
It nurtures and is empowered by an international network, and acts both through that network and its publications.
